Law and Literature: Revenge, Justice and
Mercy – 1 Hour
This course examines the nature of law and justice
through the medium of literature. We will explore how literature addresses
revenge and mercy, and their place in the pursuit and achievement of justice,
particularly in our legal system. Readings will include Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, Aeschylus’s Agamemnon, and short stories from
Flannery O’Connor and Andre Dubus, as well as selections from Holy Scripture.
